It's quiet...

So, I'm at work and everyone has left for the day... I took the old man to his eye surgery appointment today, he got the left lens replaced. So, I didn't get into work until noon. I'm working until it's time for ju jitsu tonight @ 8. I kinda enjoy being up here when everyone has gone home... No interruptions!!
Does anyone enjoy horror films like I do? I think I enjoy them so much because of a combination of things; I like the suspense, The blood is entertaining in a sick way and after a repressed childhood I find it enjoyable to delight in the extremes at times or at least stuff i didn't get to see when i was younger. The two horror flicks i have enjoyed lately is: Saw II (just like the first one there is a great twist and you get a former New Kid, Donnie Wahlberg), and One that made me think of Lua (only becaus it is set in southern France with a mixture of French and English thank god they had subtitles) called High Tension. Oh and I saw the devils rejects unrated, I felt dirty watching it, Rob Zombie is crazy with the gratuitous violence and gore!
Ok well I better get back to work!!

P.S.- Today Dad describe how cold he was by saying "I feel colder than a well diggers ass!" I thought everyone could get a laugh from that one!

Shrimp do swim...

The shrimp was awesome at the cajun thanksgiving party. However, never eat shrimp the same day as ju jitsu! I went through my first full session with a gi, it was rough. The gi is made out of heavy duty material to sustain all the wear. It felt like i was working out in a light jacket and pants and as you know us oldhams can sweat! I thought i was going to lose my shrimp towards the end after spending 30 minutes learning how to fall. The beggining was 30 minutes of calisthenics and stretching then we ended the class with 15mins of streching and calisthenics. It was quite a workout. I talked to one of the guys that was talking about how he lost 100lbs. since he started 14months ago! I understand why. I was completely exhausted afterwards.

Doumo Arigatou gozai masu - Something else i learned in class, Formal Japanese phrase that means "Thank you very much"

Sore...

So, still a little sore from the new sport I am learning. As the pic says it's ju jitsu. Class resumes tomorrow night so I'll get sore all over again! So far i really like it, the instructor is nice and so are the other students. I think eventually i'll join their team which competes in tournaments around the u.s. should be fun. I think the instructor may be interested in trading some lessons for some work on his website. It's not bad but it's not good, it just needs a uniform design with colors that work on a website. So I'm crossing my fingers that he will be down to let me do some work... Plus it's one more thing to put on the 'ol resume.
Well I didn't receive any comments on active directory, you people disappoint me! But, don't worry active directory is now my bitch and gives me all the data I need.
So, tommorrow is the office Thanksgiving party. Instead of a turkey they are steaming 75lbs. of shrimp! I must say living on the gulf has it's advantages when it's not hurricane season. I'm throwing together a veggie tray so i'll have something else I can eat.

Lowbrow Art anyone?

I've really been enjoying the Lowbrow art world these days. I enjoy most things described as Lowbrow but in this case it's art. The painting i have posted is by Scott Saw. I like the way the LA Weekly describes it:
"Lowbrow art — the loose mash-up of excluded visual culture ranging from tattoos, underground comix and custom hot rods to slick post-graffiti street-art campaigns and immaculately glazed pop-surrealist oil paintings — has emerged from its scrappy underworld beginnings and is finally getting the respect it has always craved." You should also check out: Lowbrow art world, Robert Williams, and Mark Ryden. There are a lot of talented artists out there... Have any favorites yourself?

A break...

Made it through another week... One more down in the quest to pad my resume with experience so I can one day move on preferrably to Raleigh, NC where Linds is toiling down the p.h.d track. She's under the gun trying to finish up before the end of the semester which means I talk to her either late at night or go a day or two without talking while she spends all night and day in the library. I'm always impressed by her level of dedication to studying. I guess that's why she's going to school for free and I have loans.

I'm heading over to Pensacola this weekend to check out an organic coop store a co-worker was telling me about. That should be fun. Thanks Jerome!!

If any of you have worked with active directory a lot, get ahold of me... I'm having trouble extracting data from it right now!!!

Watch Out...

Beware of the fake xp service pack 3. I received this information from a newsletter I get:

Fake Windows XP service packs
Merete, who has a Guru certificate in Windows XP, received some email and forwarded it to us. It is reprinted, courtesy of the author.
Dear Merete,
I know it has only been 24 hours since my last email but this news is just surfacing on the Internet and could be a timely warning for you.
It seems an "unofficial" Windows XP Service Pack has been made available on the Internet and anyone who installs it on their computers could be in trouble!
Here is one quote from Microsoft I have read:
"Anyone who installs this thinking they are getting SP3 (even as a preview) is being grossly mislead and is posing a significant potentially non-recoverable risk to their PC and data," wrote Mike Brannigan, an enterprise strategy and senior consultant at Microsoft.
SO BE WARNED!
...if you come across a link with a suggestion you download the software then AVOID it.
Microsoft has said that its priority is Windows Vista, the next major release of its operating system.
While the company does have plans to release XP SP3, it has not provided details on what the service pack will contain. Microsoft has issued a statement saying that the "content on the unofficial website(s) does not represent Microsoft's plans for Windows XP SP3."
Got a friend who uses Windows XP? Then why not send them a copy of this email...
Kind Regards

No Thanks, I'll pass...

Much to my surprise the evil pastry known as Krispy Kreme was waiting in the office today to tempt me. However I stood my ground and resisted! The masses have now consumed them and I can breathe easy now. I'm in a competition with two coworkers here to lose the most weight in 6 months... Winner gets $250 and a meal paid by the two losers at the restaurant of their choice! That's big time, these fools are going down. Every week the two that lose the least contribute $5 a piece to the pot. One day at a time...
On a different note, I started Ju Jitsu last night! I'm sore! I got thrown around quite a bit. To the outside observer I'm sure it would be pretty funny to watch. I also learned what it feels like to get put in an arm bar, I see why people get their arms broken when this move is performed all out. A couple times it was reminiscent to when Dad was in police academy and would practice his submissions on Mark and I. Oh well like Mark and I where talking the other night, at least i got a costume for Halloween although I don't think the white belt is intimidating enough! I have an order in with Mark for some custom weapons, paper throwing stars (maybe a fine black pouch to carry them in?) and the quite effective tennis ball on a rope! Bring it suckers!!

The Lord God Bird

Most of you probably already know about this, but I thought it was worth mentioning on here. I'm still pretty new to the music of Sufjan Stevens but after searching the internet and finding the song "The Lord God Bird" and listening to it i thought someone else may find it as interesting as i did. You can download the song and read the story at NPR.

24 hour church of elvis

KingdomForAVoice will probably enjoy this more then most. Has anyone ever heard of the 24 hour church of elvis? It used to be located in Portland, Or. I lived in p-town for a short time only to find that I was a little too late sadly it had closed before i got a chance to visit the place. It was ran by a rather interesting woman who would for $5 peform a marriage ceremony complete with a certificate! There was also a quite impressive shrine too. If anyone has a story please share. L.M may have a story or two since she got her undergrad @ Lewis and Clark College.

A Liberal Score...

I was pleased to see Tim Kaine win the election for governor in Virginia, despite the appearance of the number one good 'ol boy himself dubya. Living a life as a democrat is a life of exile to a certain extent these days. Especially if you live in the deep south of Alabama like I do. I can't say that I agree with everything the Democratic party stands for but it's closest to my far left stance than any of my other options. Well at least the option that has a chance of getting elected. I hate this unplugged attitude that American youth has adopted these days (yes I'm guilty of it myself) When did it get so popular to believe everything you see on TV or read? When did it become unpatriotic to question The Man? Since when did 2000 dead Americans not really phase people? Sure seemed to bother people when 2,752 died. And don't give me that hillbilly bullshit "we are keeping America free" I want to vomit when I hear that damn defense of the war. Iraq is not the only place where the government committed genocide or threatened America. However, they are the ones, besides the people actually responsible for 9/11, that resemble the people who attacked America. Is this another case of kick ass American racial profiling? No, I think this is another case of good 'ol Texas vengeance Bush said it himself "After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad." Pandora's box has been opened people.
P.S.- I know these thoughts are played out to a lot of people. But, I don't give a fuck. However, I do promise to not always be such a "Debbie Downer" on here.

Well, here goes...

After countless hours enjoying the many blogs in cyberspace, I have decided to join the ranks.
I'll do my best to not bore everyone to death. Look for frequent updates with varying degrees of coherent ramblings. I spend all day on the net ( in my underwear eating cheetos), well actually clothed and working, with plenty of time to either entertain or exacerbate.
